Removing the lower drum from the forestay.
You will remove the forestay attachment and the bolts securing the ProFurl on the forestay to remove the lower unit. Obviously you will have to secure the mast with the jib halyard to a forward point on the deck to support the mast. Also secure the furling sleeves so they do not slide off the forestay.
- Remove the sail
- Secure the mast with the jib halyard to the forward deck (use as temporary forestay)
- Detach the forestay and secure the furling sleeves – these will slide around when you remove the lower drum from the forestay
- Remove bolts retaining ProFurl unit link plates to forestay
- Back out the retaining set screws holding the forestay sleeves to the drum
- Lower unit should now slide off the forestay. Upper unit will slide off once the lower is removed.
Bearing Refit Kit
Parts are available from Mauripro as of 2022. Bearings and oils seals can also be purchased online (see below for links).
Note: the original kit came with only one bearing. The ProFurl NC32 lower and upper units take two stacked bearings (52mm x 40mm x 7mm). Bearing specifications will vary by ProFurl model.

Bearing used to replace on lower unit:

Original rings – new on left the corroded old one on right.
The old rings were replaced with sealed bearings below. The original bearings are not sealed but the unit has upper and lower seals to keep out the water/dust. That works until it doesn’t. I replaced the open bearings with sealed bearings.
